Welcome Back To My DoFollow Blog! As a Big Thank You, I’d Like to Give You FREE Access to my “Profitable Blogging Made Easy” Report That Gives You The Key Strategies For a Successful, Profitable Blog! ~ Christine Brady
Throughout the course of your online business, you will communicate with thousands upon thousands of people – readers, visitors, partners, customers, mentors, associates. And all of them will have a different style of communicating – some are straight to the point, others tell great stories and still others write better than they talk. But one thing holds true for all of our online and offline communicating…
A comment may sound one way to us, but come off completely different to someone else.
Your role as the online business owner is to lead the way for comments – be the king and never disappoint your followers!
Below are 10 ways to be the king of comments:
- When readers comment on your blog, acknowledge them. Even a simple, “thank you for stopping by my blog” is better than nothing. Your blog readers probably read other blogs too – make them feel special when they visit and comment on yours.
- Use CommentLuv on your blog. CommentLuv is a plugin that will pull up the commenter’s last post and attach it to their comment. This is a great way to share their posts and add value to the comment stream. I don’t know about you, but I like it when the blog owner uses Comment Luv on their blog!
- Use the DoFollow plugin. By default, when people comment of your blog they are “nofollow” links. Meaning they get do not get a link back to their website. In building an online business, it’s a good business practice to remove this and allow backlinks – for one, it builds up your blogosphere of links and two, it gives the other blog owner a backlink – win/win!
- Add a “latest comments” widget to your sidebar. This is a helpful practice as it showcases your readers names and let’s them take front and center on your blog. Plus, visitors see that your blog is hopping!
- Make sure your comment box is easily seen by readers – this is a big one. I read an awesome blog a few days ago and wanted to leave a comment, only one thing – I couldn’t find a place to leave a comment! I scrolled the post 3 times before I found a little ”leave a comment” tag under the group of post tags. Make it super easy for readers to comment on your posts -
- Install a spam filter, such as Akismet. Akismet is a plugin that will block most, if not all of the spammy comments circulating around the web. For any busy blogger, it is a necessity.
- Ask for comments! This is so simple, but so true. I don’t do this in every post, but about every other one, I simply state “Let me know what you think with a comment” or “what do you think” – directions work!
- When you comment on others’ posts, make it so intriguing others will wonder what you are up to or what you talk about on your blog. Aside from adding a valid point to the post, you also hope that your comment gets readers over to your post too. An incredible comment, unlike any other, will do just that.
- Build a community with your commenter’s. Encouraging discussion and referring to other’s posts will show that you are a team player and ready to help others.
- And finally, comments can lead to great post ideas. Some on my best blog posts have come from either reading my own blog’s comments or reading other blog’s comments. When readers comment, they have something meaningful to say – listen to them and answer their questions or concerns in another blog post.
If you can think of any other helpful ways to be the king of comments, please share below!

Nicely done
I agree that it is nice to have a recent blog post of my own shown when I comment. I am going to install comment luv to check it out as well as do follow

Yes, check them out – they are really great plugins -
And a BIG thank you for bringing my attention to the link – I did some file moving and forgot to change it in my settings – very nice of you to let me know!
Using the comments section well is just one more way to engage and build actual relationships. Just like our real time relationships, once well built, these individuals will back us up, take part in conversations, answer frequently asked questions for us and more. It takes so little time to simply engage…we all need to schedule it.

Great post. I especially like #7 – Asking for comments. Your suggestion made me realize I am taking it for granted that readers will leave comments. Of course, I am now checking to see if Blogger has equivalent plugins.
Hi Coach Grace,
Oh, you know I wish I could recommend something pertaining to Blogger – though I’m really a Blogger novice!
Glad you found it helpful – thanks for stopping by!
Great tips. I hope everyone reads this.

Hi, Christine,
Thank you for sharing these great tips. I have now more widget and plugin to implement (your points No. 3 and 4).
I remember the time without the Akismet pluging. As a new blogger, I was completely overwhelmed then!
This post can help a lot of people to get started the right way. Keep up the great work.

Very relevant and educative post. Most of the time we overlook all this little things that really make the difference. Thanks for the reminder and the tips.
Thank you Marjorie,
Great point – it’s the little things that make a BIG difference!
Thanks for stopping by!
I can say I’ve covered almost all of those, but I still don’t get very many comments on my posts. And no shares.

Christine, thanks for all these wonderful tips! There is one more that I picked up somewhere (I think it was on Copyblogger). Try not to be so thorough in your post that there is no room for people to add anything. You shouldn’t try to cover absolutely every point or your commenters won’t have anything to say. That was definitely a pointer that I hadn’t thought of!

Christine, Thank you for the great tips! I am new to writing blog posts but have of course enjoyed reading them for sometime. I have always felt appreciative of the great information I am able to find online but failed to express that appreciation. I vow to be more responsible in that area and this will help me to succeed!
Hi Sue,
Welcome to the world of writing!
I’m so glad you stopped by – let me know what else you are struggling with – there are many resources available – just ask!
Thanks again for visiting!
Christine,
what a nice list. I am using all but the comment widget.
For beginner bloggers, this is a great list to look at. I wish I’d read your post about 1 1/2 years ago. I could have used it then.
Great to read some of your posts.

Thanks for these tips. I like and use CommentLuv on my blog too and think it’s a great way to thank a fellow blogger for commenting. Didn’t know about the DoFollow plugin, so will be implementing that right now!

Hi Christine,
I would LOVE to add something intriguing to your post in this comment but your post is perfect and needs no additions! Thanks for the tip about the ‘latest comments’ widget in the sidebar, I’ll add that now.
Have been thinking about using CommentLuv but haven’t had time to look at it properly so will put that on my list too.
I particularly like the comment about community, it’s amazing the insights you can get into people from a short typed comment, and how you can ‘hear’ their tone of voice through it, I find it fascinating and have made many online friends that i know I would be friends with in ‘real life’ if we ever met up!
Thanks again!
