If you’ve ever written an awesome blog post, hit that publish button and then sat and waited and waited and waited. You know it’s not a good feeling. Waiting for readers is no fun.
Your blog is a place to interact and to build relationships. Maybe even develop some customers. But when it looks more like a deserted ghost town than a bustling city, it’s time to strategize and reel in those readers.
Generating a buzz around your content is not as tricky as it may seem. Although when you’re waiting for readers it seems nearly impossible.
The trick is to NOT wait for them!
Go out and get them.
Attracting Readers with Compelling Content
Here are 3 quick ways to get readers over to your blog:
The first thing to do is to get your social sharing on. Just hitting the publish button on a blog post is not enough to generate traffic to your blog. Instead, open up Hootsuite or whatever platform you use for social media, and start interacting and sharing. One of the best places to share and share alike is Triberr.com. Your blog posts will feed into the stream in Triberr and be shared by others (provided you share as well).
Next it’s time to start reading and commenting on some other blogs. Spending 30 minutes reading and commenting on other blogs does a few things:
- It brings readers back to your blog
- It adds to the blog owner’s engagement and
- It allows you to “meet” other bloggers (future business partners?!)
This is all assuming the comments you leave are insightful, intriguing and give readers a reason to want to check out your blog too.
And the last strategy is guest posting. Now, you may be wondering how posting on someone else’s blog can be good for your blog, but it is incredibly good for your blog. When you guest post on another blog, you are usually allowed to have an author box with a link or two back to your blog. Here is the scenario – the blog’s readers read your guest post and enjoy it. They see your links and click to visit your blog. You have instant visitors.
Remember the Big C
These are short and sweet ways to increase the traffic to your blog. In some cases, it can mean hundreds of visitors.
In any strategy, good, quality content is essential. That includes what you share on social media, the comments you leave and particularly the guest posts you write. Compelling content is the key ingredient in taking your blog from ordinary to extraordinary.

Guest posting is one of those necessary evils, isn’t it? I know I have to do it but I keep avoiding it! It’s stupid psychology…. writing a blog takes time and effort so if I’m going to spend time and effort I’m going to do it for MY blog! But ultimately the whole point of guest blogging is to get people to my blog so ok, I’ll suck it up and do it! Tomorrow

These are great suggestions, Christine. The social engagement concept is very important, and using Triberr is definitely a great strategy. Commenting on other blogs is tremendous in that it builds rapport with other bloggers. Guest posting is also important in bringing additional traffic. Nice work!

Hi Anthony,
Glad you enjoyed it!
Engagement is an incredibly important part of an online business – plus, it’s what keeps it fun and exciting!

Hi Christine,
Nice post – I think all these are great ways to attract traffic. The best probably being guest posting. If you can get on the “most popular” section of someones blog then this could bring in traffic to your site for a long time. I actually find writing slightly controversial posts helps a bit with this (tends to get more comments!) – after all we are only human and do not agree with everything everyone has to say.
My basic rule with social media is, spend as much time on social media as I did writing the post. Its so easy today with smartphones and apps to spread the word about a post so there really is no excuse!
Great post – Best regards,
John

Hi John,
Great points!
And very interesting about being a little controversial with guest posts – a differing opinion is a great angle.
Thanks for visiting!

Hi christine,
This is great post,.Here is some great information for bloggers .it’s intresting and new BUT Something that bloggers need to realize is that before you start earning an income from your blog you have to first deliver. Site visitors always want to know what’s in for them before they can produce their credit cards.
Thanks for the gesture.

Hi Bhushan,
Glad you enjoyed it!
You really have to overdeliver in this day and age. Consumers expect a lot more, especially with bonuses being thrown around as much as they are. Overdelivering is almost standard commonplace.

Good tips, Christine! About a month ago I put “comment on at least 2 other blogs per day” on my to-do list. I love the interaction with others and always learn new things from the what others have to say.
I can’t remember who said it, but on Twitter last week someone tweeted that you should only guest post more often than you post on your own blog (I think the suggestion was only 3 – 4 times a month on your own blog!). What do you think of that suggestion? I’ve only been blogging a few months so I’m hesitant to not post fresh content at least a couple of times a week.
I like your suggestion of using Triberr – I have definitely met some great people through it that I otherwise wouldn’t have connected with.

Hi Lisa,
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think with a new blog, posting fresh content frequently is essential for establishing readership and driving in traffic. A more established blog, like with tens of thousands of readers, can post a few times per month –
As for guest posting, I’m in the midst of a big undertaking with guest posting right now, I can tell you it works, but I’m writing A LOT. I still post on my own blog 2 -3 times per week, but I write for others a couple times per week.
It’s a lot but it works!
