If you have been building an online business, then the phrase “build a list” and list building probably sound familiar to you.

List building is a powerful way to market your business to highly targeted individuals.  Done the right way, a subscriber list can be a very lucrative business model.

It makes sense that the question of just how to build a list would need some explaining.

Here are some tips to set yourself up for success:

  • A highly targeted offer is essential.  Often, when trying to decide what free offer to offer subscribers, some dated PLR material is selected.  Dated PLR is not a good freebie.  Your free offer should be a reflection of you.  This free offer is important as it establishes to the subscriber what you are going to be sending them in the future.
  • An effective squeeze page.  Squeeze pages are often called landing pages.  Both mean the same thing – a page that the visitor lands on with no other choice on it, but to provide a name and email address.  But these simple pages are often overlooked in a rush to get started and build your list.  This page needs to be effective at converting visitors.
  • Follow-up offers.  Follow-up offers or OTO’s are important to offer your new customers something more of value.  A good solid OTO can make you sales – many sales!  In fact, visitors taking the OTO will probably stick with you longer as they have obviously found value in what you deliver.
  • A good email system in place.  This is usually last when learning about how to build a list so, I’ll keep it there on this list as well.  When people opt-in to your list, they have become a part of your business.   Treat them well and they will respect you and pay attention to what you offer.  Treat them badly and they will unsubscribe very quickly.

When you are looking at how to build a list of subscribers, focus on them.  While you may have all kinds of achievements online, people only care about what’s in it for them.  Getting too me-focused in your correspondence leads to people not valuing your opinion.
