blog post in 10 minutesIn my last post, 10 Ways to Use 10 Minutes to Move Your Business Forward, at the top of the list was write a blog post.  I received a ton of feedback, most of it on that point alone.

10 minutes on a blog post?!  How is that possible?

Well, it is very possible and very easy – Are you ready?  10 minutes, Go!

Title is first.  It takes me about 2 seconds to come up with my titles – seriously!  The reason why is I keep a running list of titles in my phone or on my computer of things to blog about.  In this case, How to write a blog post in 10 minutes was not on my list, but I listened to my readers and they created the title for me.

Done.

Headline # 1

Start Your Post From Another Idea

This headline took about 10 seconds.  The idea is to think quickly.  Run ideas through your head about your title and what your audience would like to know about.  If the title is how to write a blog post in10 minutes, I gather that my readers want to know where to start, what to write, how to bring it together in record time.

Starting or springboarding your post off of another blogger’s idea or another one of your own posts is one of the easiest ways to generate a blog post in 10 minutes.  Exactly what I did with this one!

The body of the post

Your headline should guide you in what to write next.  You read someone else’s blog post – what came to mind when you read it?  In your post, inject your own ideas and what else you could add to it.

If you are using one of your previous posts as a jumping off point, add a whole new angle to it.

For example, if you wrote a post on affiliate marketing tips surely you did not cover all of them.  Add another one or two tips and expand on those in an entirely new post.

Here’s a secret – Make your 10 minute post a more detailed explanation of a topic you previously covered.  Another example, I discuss traffic strategies in several of my other posts.  I can take one of those strategies and expand on it in detail.

The idea is to take one thing that you know well and go into more detail.

This body copy took me  4.5 minutes.

Closing thoughts

Being able to write a blog post in 10 minutes does take some practice and skill – fast typing helps, for sure; plus having a running list of ideas is essential as well.

But, if you keep ideas close by, then sitting down and cranking out a blog post quickly will be no problem.

One writer that I really enjoy and recommend is Dr. Voe Vitale.  In his book, Hypnotic Writing, he gives tip after tip and action step after action step to become a hypnotic writer.  He also talks about some very famous writers – Jack London, for one, who would write 1,000 words per day merely as exercise.

The way they accomplish this is just by writing – nothing else.  Just sitting down and writing whatever comes to mind.

That is precisely what I have done in this blog post – I knew that I was going to write a blog post within 10  minutes and so I sat down and wrote.  Did not stop once to ponder or think.  I have not quite finished, but I look down and I am at 7.2 minutes.

Perfect for me to be able to grab an image off  http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/  (40 seconds) and then run my spell check (30 seconds).  Add some bolding, formatting and my H1 tag (1 minute).

Now I hit publish –

(total time 9.3 minutes!)

I was intrigued by the title and the article did not disappoint.

    Loved it!

Hope I can duplicate. I also know not every post can only take 10 minutes and I have to admit; I wrote my first ‘less than an hour’ post tonight! yeah! I am slowly getting there.

10 minutes if you type directly into the blog mask
10 minutes if internet-connection is good

i won.t be able to make it in 10 min – need graphics and need the spellchecker of word … but 30 min are great for me :)

    • Hi Helen,

      Right and write!

That one I did type directly into WP – it was quite an exercise for me.

I don’t usually just set a timer and type, but it worked!

      Appreciate your comments!

  4. Hi Christine,

Great post today – I would never have believed that it was possible to write a blog post in only 10 mins but not anymore!!

I think if you write about a topic that your familiar with then you can cut down a lot time which would be otherwise spent on research. I agree that coming up with a good title is half the battle as the post will nearly write itself if you come up with a good one!!

Short, clear and to the point posts can often cut out alot of “fluff” and force you to only deliver the best content to your readers.

Looking forward to more 10 minute posts:) – Noel.

    • Hi Noel,

Exactly – I had the title already for that post, so that helped tremendously!

I actually do have several posts that I’ve written in probably 10 minutes – they don’t get published too often as I have other ideas come up before I can publish them!

      Glad you enjoyed it!

    Chiristine I like your style,

I think that even getting the start of a post done in 10 minutes can create the momentum needed to either finish it, or if time is not allowing, feel like you have accomplished something of substance.

I also have a running list of post ideas, but sometimes I have a hard time getting started. If I find myself in this situation, I CLOSE my eyes and just start typing whatever comes out of my head. It can be forced at first, but it soon turns into a sort of stream of consciousness. Now I can go back and edit, spell check, and format.

This usually only takes me 15 minutes to get something down that I really like.

    Hi Christine,

You’re absolutely right, writing a high-quality blog post doesn’t have to take long, but focus must be on providing content that your readers will actually want to read and look forward to reading.

I personally enjoy shooting videos, so the entire process takes more than 10 minutes, but I never usually take more than 1hr from beginning to uploaded – at the end of the day, it’s quality over quantity… and people don’t know or care how long it takes you as long as it’s good.

    Thanks for sharing!

Fun post Christine although I would like to call your bluff!

You spent time beforehand planning the blog post by writing out ideas, so you have used a marketing trick to state only the writing takes 10 minutes!

You really do not want to hear how long my articles take me, but lets say they are around the 3,000 words mark and when you get over 1,500 words you have to think hard and plan your articles or nobody will read them..

I’m with Pauly that for me, audio and video are my 10 minute fix. I can express myself very quickly in those formats but writing for me has always been for deeper thoughts and perhaps I am not suited to the 10 minute article theory.

I think your point about practice and consistency is really valid. If you practice then I’m sure anyone can learn to write within 10 minutes, especially if just as you state, they define exactly what they want to talk about.

  9. Great idea! I know my posts tend to drag on, unless I am super inspired. Hopefully, this will help me get more posts out! :)

    • Hi Carrie,

Glad you enjoyed it – I was the same way and it used to wear me out, going back to correct or change posts and then not being satisfied with them.

I think just writing at least one really speedy blog post helps to get the mind set of efficiency flowing!

      Thanks for stopping by!

Great suggestions. I do keep a running list of possible blog topics. However, it takes me at least an hour to write a post. I love the idea of setting a timer and just going for it. The timer will definitely keep me focused.

    Great inspiring post Christine.

I think 10 minutes is the ultimate goal although very challenging for me since English is not my native language.

I have an habit to search for references and include in my posts the latest ideas from thought leaders and experts in the topic I blog about. It takes often several hours but it has two main benefits: 1- speeding-up my learning curve on a specific subject 2-Give my readers enough substance to make their own judgement.

    • Hi Anne,

      Thanks!

Tackling a blog post in 10 minutes definitely gets you moving and grooving quickly.

I agree with you though – research is necessary, although when it’s a familiar subject, it makes a 10 minute blog post a breeze!
