move your business forwardTime, time, time, either there’s never enough of it or it goes by so slowly you can count the seconds.

There’s never enough time when you need it, like when you have a million things to do in one day and can’t even seem to get the first thing done on time.

And it creeps by so slowly when you wish it would hurry up.

When it comes to an online business, is there ever enough time to get everything done in one day?

No, never -

And then when you do have the time, do you get started on something thinking it is a good use of time when really it just killed a lot of it?

Got 10 Minutes?  Let’s Get to Work.

Here are 10 things you can do in 10 minutes to move your business forward everyday:

  1. Write a blog post.  A blog post is a great way to get some fresh content in the marketplace.  Content is the thing that draws visitors to your blog.  The great thing about blog posts is that they also have the potential for being re-purposed.  So, write a blog post or two (schedule one to publish later).
  2. Share some of your posts on Twitter and retweet other’s posts.  Getting on Twitter for a certain amount of time a few times a day is ideal.  It does not have to be a long stretch.  Allocate a few minutes to sharing some content and you could potentially drive hundreds of visitors to your site!
  3. Write an email to someone you’d like to connect with.  Reaching out to someone on an individual basis is a highly effective marketing strategy.  Coming from an offline marketing background, I can attest that personalized attention still rules!
  4. Comment on a few blogs.  Read a few blogs and make some insightful comments.  Easy.
  5. Write an article and submit it to an article directory.  This is easier than you think – and here’s a secret I’ll share with you to make the process super easy.  Take one of your blog posts, click copy and head over to ezinearticles and click paste in the article box.  Very simple.  Reference  how to write an article for syndication  for even more ideas.
  6. Send an email to your list to recommend a great product or service.  Are you using a helpful tool or plugin or service that works really well for you?  Well, don’t hold back – share it with your list!
  7. Hop on a forum and answer a few questions.  If you Google your niche and the word forum there will likely be several forums that appear in the search results.  Look at the questions being asked – if you know the answer to them, jump in and answer them.
  8. Get on Facebook and update your status, quickly ‘like’ and comment on other people’s posts.  Facebook is a time trap for me, so I always use a timer or just watch my clock.  But I have found that I can quickly update my status, check out what’s going on in a few groups I’m in and comment/like appropriately all within 10 minutes.
  9. Write a thank you note or email.  Saying thank you is something that I learned from a top-producing Realtor I used to work for.  She wrote thank you cards everyday.  If cards aren’t your thing, send a quick email to someone who has helped you out in some way – there’s got to be a few right?!
  10. Take action on something you’ve thought about starting but haven’t.  Maybe that eBook that’s been in the back of your head.  Maybe trying your hand at videos (that one’s for me!).  Maybe checking out some new product or service.

Take Away

The idea behind all these tips is to take action on things that will inevitably move your business forward.  Too often, actions don’t lead to anything productive.  With every action, every process you put into motion, consider if it’s a forward moving action or just a busybody action.

And just stick with the ones that are moving your business forward!

    • Hi Jocelyn,

Honestly, I never thought I could finish one 10 minutes either!

When I first started my blog I was really having trouble coming up with post ideas. One day, I had a few minutes in between kid’s activities and I sat down and cranked out a great blog post in 10 minutes. Since then, if I’m ever wondering what to blog about, I’ll give myself 10 minutes to come up with something and write it down. Usually works!

    Hi Christine,

Excellent post. It’s amazing what can be done in 10 minutes. Having this list handy is great. Augmented with my own to-do ist, it means I can really maximize those fragments of time.

Those bits of time become useless if you don’t have something ready to be slotted in to them – never thought I could do an entire post in 10, but hey, there’s always a first time …

    Thanks for sharing :)

    Hey Christine,

10 minutes to write a blog post… WOW, I could never do that! Or at least, not that I know from my past experience.

It normally takes me quite a few hours to come up with a blog post (and write it!) but I’m definitely using some techniques to become a bit better in that area.

Even though there is a lot that can be done in just 10 minutes to improve our networking and business reach/exposure, I loved the tips on nurturing your list.

I have found that people really do not expect to receive personal e-mails so whenever I have done that, I have gained a lot more interest from my readers.

Definitely a must I would say.

Thanks for the tips and about video, you really should try it.

It is VERY scary in the beginning but after a while, it really becomes fun! ;-)

    Hi Christine

A great list on how to spend those 10 mins in a productive way! I am like a few others I don’t see myself writing a blog post in 10 mins maybe I can come up with the idea and headline but it usually takes me around an hour from start to finish, but I am going to try and see if I can get it down to say 1/2 an hour!
It is SO easy to get caught up on Facebook I think we have all been there so using a timer is a great tip.
Your tip number 10 is one I need to put into practice too.

Thanks for sharing and good luck with the video!
    Have a great day

    • Hi Pauline,

That’s funny – I have gotten lots of feedback on the 10 minute blog post – I’ll have to do a 10 minute blog post as my next topic!

Glad you enjoyed it – and yes, Facebook always captures me in terms of time – if I didn’t time myself, I’m sure I could approach an hour on there!

  9. These are all really great tips. Social media is where I get most of my contacts, and it takes time to get the business running on all cylinders. But it really is worth the time an effort. The hardest thing to remember is to avoid busy activities that gain you minimal (if any) return for your time and effort. You have to make contacts and you have to continue developing relationships. The tasks/steps mentioned above will help you do just that.

    • Hi Kirk,

Great statement – “it takes time to get the business running on all cylinders.” That is so valuable – nothing online is an overnight success, even the best products and services took time to plan out.

Thanks so much for the poignant comment!

    • Hi Llias,

      Glad you liked it!

The meaning behind 10 minutes is that each of these 10 things can be accomplished in 10 minutes AND they all contribute to moving your business forward!

A lot can be accomplished in only 10 minutes – just focus on one thing at a time.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
