How many times have you seen or read something about niches? Dozens, hundreds?
There is a reason for the focus on niches and niche selection.
“Jack of all trades, master of none.”
Simply put – Trying to cover all sorts of topics in your writing, in your tweets, in your Facebook communications, in videos confuses your readers and makes you a master of none.
Think of it this way, everyone starting an online business is trying to establish a name for themselves online.
They want readers, they want to have a presence, they want to be known online.
But in order to be known online, they have to be known for something. If the focus of their efforts, meaning what they talk about, is all over the place, what are they known for?
Narrowing down your niche is especially crucial for the success of your compelling free offer.
Remember, one of the characteristics of your compelling free offer is to establish yourself as an expert in your field. And what makes an expert?
- Experts know their subject matter very well.
- They can speak passionately about their topic.
- They are confident in discussing their niche with others.
- They research and study their niche on a daily basis.
Do not let the fact that you may be new to your niche be a roadblock to crafting your offer.
Experts are constantly evolving. They learn non-stop.
So if you are reading and following and interacting with others within your niche, you are an expert. You are an expert because there are other people who are just starting their online businesses. You know more than they do, you are someone they can look to for advice. You are the expert in your niche to the person who entered your niche 5 minutes ago.
Whereas, trying to be an expert on several subjects, or a broad subject matter is only going to be frustrating and unproductive.
So what’s the answer?
It’s called narrowing your focus or niching down.
Here’s a quick example…
Looking at the area of fitness, which is a great market, by the way.
This is a huge market – way too broad to create anything compelling in. Niche down some – fitness for females. Better but still too big. Fitness for females during pregnancy – ah, now we’re talking.
We’ve taken a large market, fitness is really a market, not a niche, and focused and focused some more to nail down a segment that is more targeted and reachable.
Fitness for females during pregnancy is a niche we can learn and write about. Your compelling free offer could be titled, The 5 Best Exercises to do During Pregnancy.
This offer is compelling, targeted to one specific market and gives solid information on one topic, not the fitness industry as a whole.
When people opt-in to get this free offer, they will be your target market. And you will be their go-to expert in that field.
Now that’s a win-win!
