As you know from my last post, the Ultimate Blog Challenge is here. If you are unfamiliar, the Ultimate Blog Challenge is a challenge to publish content everyday for the entire month. It’s a personal challenge for me, in that my blogging schedule is usually about 2 to 3 times per week!
But, I’m ready for it – going to start publishing now (maybe I’ll even publish some posts I’ve had sitting on my computer!)
I took part in the challenge during the month of January and quite a few things surprised me –
One is that blogging everyday is not as difficult as it sounds. Wait, NOT as difficult? That’s right – not as hard as you would think. Sure, the first few days are a challenge, but after you get used to the idea of writing something everyday, by day 5, you just DO IT!
And second, the traffic boost that comes with blogging everyday is pretty amazing. When I took part in the January challenge, I was just starting to gear up my blog after being on hiatus for a while. Doing the challenge helped send my visitor count up, up and away.
And finally, publishing content everyday helps you become a better writer, better content creator, better video maker, etc. When you do something like that every single day, you improve with every post you make. So, yes, practice does help you perfect a skill.
Having said that, it also helps to have a focus for the month. Meaning, an area of your business that you are going to blog about for the month. In January, I did traffic tips. That made my blog posts so much easier to write. I actually planned out all of the traffic tips I was going to cover for the month and then just wrote one per day. Very easy and very informative at the same time.
This month the focus is going to be on list building. You probably already know that I am an avid business builder and have built lists in a few niches.
This month I’m going to start another list from scratch.
I have one name on it so far and that is my own.
So, for this challenge I will chronicle all of my activities in building this list and report everything that I do.
You get to see firsthand all of the back office stuff that goes on when building a list.
For this list, I am going to use both free and paid traffic generating activities.
I plan on doing some solo ads, obviously a lot of blogging, maybe a video (we’ll see about that, don’t hold me to it!) and push out some articles.
Probably a lot more, but you’ll get to experience what it’s like to build a new list from zero.
I must warn you though, my blog posts may be super long at times and other times, super short – just depends where I’m at with my campaign.
To kick things off – since I missed the first blog post yesterday, I’ll bring you up to speed on what I’ve done…
Yesterday I spent the day checking out different offers I plan on promoting.
You see, if there is one thing I’ve learned about list building it’s that the initial offer (the free offer) must be super targeted with a rock solid squeeze page.
And you can stop there, but I’m not – I also want a well converting offer or two on the backend to ensure that my leads are offered the opportunity to buy something.
What I’ve done to make this process a whole lot easier is to enroll in a membership site where the squeeze pages and backend offers have already been tested and proven to convert.
The reason why I did this is that you can spend a lot of money and time setting up a free offer and a squeeze page and then an OTO (one time offer) and they may NEVER convert. I got lucky with an offer in the real estate niche (as it is my background), but it was super targeted with low competition.
I am going in to a whole other niche and I don’t want to become frustrated with figuring out conversions on a squeeze page.
There are many other things to test with ads and traffic, so the squeeze page is not one that I want to test right now.
So, to eliminate many months and many dollars spent, I signed up with the membership site, DotComSecrets X (an affl. link).
For a monthly membership, they give you access to all of their tested squeeze pages and OTO’s. A few steps to set them up with my autoresponder codes and we are all ready to go.
So, this is where I’m at for now, I will have a better plan in place for this challenge and share it with you as we go.
Let me know if you are or want to participate in the challenge – we can keep our momentum in check!

I like your idea of a topic for the month. Great idea. Keep us posted on your new venture and good luck!

Hi Rhonda,
Thanks!
I will be posting everyday – same place, maybe different times though
Just joined the challenge too, and started making notes for 29 more blog posts. I love your idea of a theme and list building is such a great topic to choose – plenty to write about and share. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hi Jan,
Welcome! From past experience, focusing on one topic is the only way I can complete a challenge like this – otherwise, I’m trying way too hard to come up with post ideas!
Many thanks!
Christine,
I love the idea of choosing a topic for the month of the challenge — truly focuses you on just one area of your expertise!
You give a lot of great value on your blog and by sharing the “behind the scenes” and process of it all, people get a REALISTIC picture of what list-building is all about — not the hyped up, “oh, it’s going to be so quick and easy you can sleep and it will happen in your dreams” kind of nonsense.
Looking forward to learning all about list building this month!

Hi Cathy,
Many thanks!
Yes, off to a running start I’d say – focusing is much better for me for a challenge like this –
It will be completely behind the scenes (great way of putting it!) – from the activities to the plan.
Glad you stopped by!
I love having a monthly theme for all posts! We have two bloggers here at work and that could be a cool angle to try!
Hi Carrie,
Yes, a theme helps tremendously!
Thanks for stopping by!
Ugh… I hate writing! I do whatever I can to not write, but when I finally make myself do it I think, “What was all the fuss about?” Starting is definitely the hardest part for me!
I’m going to start posting every day. I need to take action and stick with it!
Hi,
I agree, getting started is the most difficult part!
But with anything, the more you do it, the better you get!
