Is your website a good lead capture magnet? Are visitors immediately drawn to your opt-in box to join your list?
If not, then it’s time to START.
First things first, do you have a blog or website that you call your own?
If not, it is absolutely crucial that you get one.
With platforms like WordPress, setting up a website is just a matter of following the tutorials. And installing the theme OptimizePress (http://linkforyou.info/optimize), means you also have the ability to create sales pages, squeeze pages and even a membership site, all within one theme. It is not a free theme, but for one price, you can use it an unlimited number of times on unlimited domains.
The right theme is a vitally important aspect of building a list.
Whereas, websites and blogs function in a variety of different capacities; from a business standpoint, they are also your piece of Internet real estate.
But this piece of Internet real estate also has an important job to do – this home on the Internet must convert your visitors into your
subscribers.
CONVERSION TIP #1
Make it easy for visitors to opt-in to your list. The way to do this is to have the opt-in box above the fold, meaning, they don’t have to scroll down to see it.
The last thing you want is for readers to WANT to join your list but can’t seem to FIND the form!
CONVERSION TIP #2
Have several opt-in boxes in strategic places on your site.
The upper right, above the fold is the first spot.
Worth noting: There is a trend to move the opt-in box to the left side of your site. Until Google has data to back up that trend, meaning people view things on the left more than the right, the recommendation is to stick with the right hand side.
CONVERSION TIP #3
Change up your offer.
If you’ve had an offer on your site for any length of time, it’s time to change it up.
The Internet moves fast so keeping up with this fast moving train requires you to constantly stay on your toes.
And who knows, a new offer may convert better than the one you’ve always had there.
Ultimately, the best way to get subscribers and make sales is by giving them an incredible reason to stay on your website, not to pop in and leave immediately, but to stay a while and check it out.
Because, truth be told, websites subscribers can be some of the best, most responsive subscribers you have on your list.
So to entice them to become your subscribers, your website must call out to them – like a bright light shining in complete darkness.

Hi Christine
You have given some great tips here, I have played around with my blog to see how I can get the best optin rate and yes the upper right side works for me too.
It can take time to see what works best for you and I change my offer now and again, how often would you suggest changing it? I would be interested to hear from you on this.
Have a great day
Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Thanks – it’s interesting to see just what works and what doesn’t.
As for changing the offer – if it’s on your blog and depending on the traffic, I would let it run for a month or so and see what kind of response you get.
I’ve been really surprised by the response of some of my offers.
Some do really well, others not so much. On the other hand, if your offer is targeted enough to your ideal audience, it could just be a matter of traffic and not the offer itself.
But that’s a whole other topic

Great tips and entirely practical. I am one of those people who needs to change things up but I fall into a lazy place and have that “it it ain’t broke…” problem
So you just inspired me to pay a little more attention. I think after a while if people see the same thing they get blind to it anyway, but something new can perk people up!
